| Description |
English: Ērģeme castle served as a powerful fortress for the protection of the Livonian Holy Order eastern border. The castle was built around year 1320. It was a typical “wayside castle”, whose main element was a spacious, regular courtyard surrounded by a defensive wall and a moat. |
