This article provides an overview of the transportation infrastructure in the country of Austria.

Railways

Total network length: 6,123 km (3,805 mi) (3,523 km (2,189 mi) electrified), of which:

  • 5,639 km (3,504 mi) are 1,435 mm (4 ft 8+12 in) standard gauge (3,429 km (2,131 mi) of which are electrified).
  • 507 km (315 mi) are narrow gauge:
    • 23 km (14 mi) are 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+38 in) gauge
    • 13 km (8.1 mi) are 600 mm (1 ft 11+58 in) gauge
    • 468 km (291 mi) are 760 mm (2 ft 5+1516 in) gauge (94 km (58 mi) of which are electrified)
    • 3 km (1.9 mi) are 600 mm (1 ft 11+58 in) gauge

The national railway system of Austria is the Österreichische Bundesbahnen, or ÖBB. Besides, there are a few other railway companies in Austria.

Ports and harbours

All ports access the Danube.

All Austrian ports are via the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal also connected to the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

Airports

Austria has 55 airports and two heliport. Most airports in the country have short, unpaved runways. One airport has paved runways longer than 10,000 feet.
