Realignment of Automattic

[edit]

@James Bateaux (Ip will be notified soon on their talk page) The Automattic realignment is a pretty important event well-covered in relation to this dispute. See sources such as [1], [2] (last section), [3], [4], and the ones that were removed with the paragraph. Aaron Liu (talk) 18:24, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Aaron Liu its already covered on the automattic article, see my other dicussion here James Bateaux (talk) 18:29, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Per WP:OFFTOPIC and WP:UNDUE, I believe we should keep the focus on WP Engine-specific developments, as Automattic’s restructuring primarily impacts Automattic and doesn’t directly relate to WP Engine’s operations.
Instead, I suggest refining this section to streamline the focus on WP Engine’s own activities. Any additional details should ideally pertain directly to WP Engine to maintain clarity and relevance for readers James Bateaux (talk) 18:31, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I linked to widespread press coverage of the realignment in relation to the feud, and I'm fairly certain that makes it Due. The press as determined that this is on topic for the feud, and we have decided (so far) to put the coverage of the feud here. We can discuss where we could put information about just the feud (including the realignment, which has Due coverage) if you want. Aaron Liu (talk) 18:34, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Aaron Liu I agree that these events are related, but your references arent evidence of due weight, as the primary topic of both if them is Automattic/Wordpress, not WP Engine.
If you feel these details are important, include them on the Automatic article where they are due. James Bateaux (talk) 18:47, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The articles all quite clearly link the event to the drama. And their primary topic is the event of the realignment effort, not any company. Aaron Liu (talk) 18:50, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(Oh yeah: Since I'm not sure if you get notifications for replies—which you may enable at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-echo—here's your ping, which I know to trigger an email by default: @James Bateaux) Aaron Liu (talk) 18:36, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Could you link to your other discussion? And being covered there doesn't mean it can't be covered here. Aaron Liu (talk) 18:32, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Aaron Liu I have copied the content of my discussion here as you were faster to create this one. James Bateaux (talk) 18:51, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@James Bateaux Ah, makes sense. Aaron Liu (talk) 18:53, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you provide clarification on how these restructuring efforts directly impact WP Engine’s operations, strategy, or business, with explicit references that establish this link?
Without such a direct connection, this paragraph risks leaning toward gossip rather than an encyclopedic account of events, which could inadvertently draw Wikipedia into the 'drama'—as you put it—between these companies. Given that they’re competitors, it’s essential to avoid one article containing disproportionate negative content about another, as this would compromise neutrality.
Alternatively, if you feel this needs mentioning, a general summary could suffice, focusing on Automattic's restructuring without diving into specifics that don’t directly impact WP Engine. James Bateaux (talk) 14:55, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The restructuring was a direct result of the feud with WP Engine. As mentioned in the sources cited, it is meant to created a unified company front against WP Engine. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:15, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Aaron Liu How has that had a direct impact on WP Engine? James Bateaux (talk) 18:16, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It means they are now battling a united front. In any case, whether this is related to WP Engine is for the sources to determine, and they have determined that. Honestly, I think the best thing to do is probably to make a separate article for the feud, now that coverage has endured. I'll do that later. Aaron Liu (talk) 19:17, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Aaron Liu Great idea, I would be very interested to read and or contribute to that, I'll keep an eye out. James Bateaux (talk) 19:26, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
