War 2 is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language action-thriller film directed by Ayan Mukerji. It is produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. The sixth installment in the Spy Universe and sequel to War (2019), it stars Hrithik Roshan, N. T. Rama Rao Jr and Kiara Advani.

Announced in April 2023 under the title of War 2, principal photography commenced in October 2023 and has been shot across Mumbai, Salamanca, Abu Dhabi, and Italy (Venice, Lake Como, Tuscany, Naples, the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast).

War 2 is scheduled to release on 14 August 2025 coinciding with the Indian Independence Day in IMAX and other premium formats.[1][2]

In April 2023, Yash Raj Films announced a sequel to the 2019 film War and sixth instalment in the shared universe titled War 2. Ayan Mukerji was roped into direct the film, replacing Siddharth Anand.[4][5][6] This would be Mukerji's first venture outside of Dharma Productions.

Casting

Hrithik Roshan reprises his role whilst Telugu actor N. T. Rama Rao Jr was cast as the antagonist, marking his debut in Hindi films.[7] In June 2023, Kiara Advani joined the cast.[8][9] Ashutosh Rana reprises his role from the prequel. In Tiger 3, Roshan reprised his role in a cameo appearance in the post-credits scene.[10] The post-credit scene was directed by Mukerji himself.[11]

Filming

The first schedule of War 2 took place in Madrid featuring stunt doubles, due to the lead actors having schedules in Hyderabad and Mumbai for Fighter and Devara respectively.[12] A car chase sequence was shot in the localities of Salamanca.[13][14]

The second schedule commenced in the first week of December 2023 in Abu Dhabi where a boat chase sequence choreographed by Franz Spilhaus, was shot with stunt doubles. Additional action sequences were also filmed at the Yas Marina Circuit.[15][16]

On 7 March 2024, Hrithik Roshan began shooting his introductory sequence at the YRF Studios in Mumbai. A set resembling a Shaolin Monastery was built where a katana sequence featuring Roshan were shot.[17][18] NTR joined production on 12 April 2024.[19] On the same day, an aeriel action sequence featuring NTR and Roshan was filmed while it was choreographed by Franz Spilhaus and Sunil Rodrigues.[20] A set of an aircraft interior and exterior were created in Vile Parle.[21] Roshan has alloted 100 days for the project with filming expected to be completed by June.[22] In August 2024, Advani shot her introductory scene in Infiniti Mall, Malad.[23] In September 2024, Roshan and Advani shot for a romantic song along with some action sequences, over a 15 day schedule in Italy, across Venice, Lake Como, Naples, Tuscany, the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast.[24][25] In October 2024, a 40-man fight sequence involving NTR was shot in Yash Raj Studios in Andheri.[26]
