Vaccination in Brazil includes the use of vaccines in the Brazilian public health and the place of vaccines in society, policy, and research.

Vaccination Coverage

Free vaccines against several common diseases are provided by the Brazilian National Immunization Program and the Unified Health System to people of all age groups, and historically, coverage has been high, reaching a national rate higher than 90%[1][2][3]. Vaccination coverage includes[4]:

  • Intradermal BCG vaccine at birth;
  • Hepatitis B vaccine at birth, 1 and 6 months;
  • Tetravalent vaccine (DTwP (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis) and +Hib (Haemophilus influenzae b) at 2, 4, and 6 months
  • Hib– GSK (OPV (oral polio vaccine) 2, 4, 6, and 15 months;
  • GSK Rotavirus (monovalent oral human rotavirus vaccine) at 2 and 4 months;
  • Pneumococcal 10-valent conjugate vaccine d at 2, 4, 6, and 10 months
  • Meningitis C conjugate vaccine d at 3, 5, and 15 months;
  • Yellow fever vaccine 9 months and booster every 10 years;
  • MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine) at 12 months and 4 years;
  • DTwP (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccine) at 15 months and 4 years;
  • DT (diphtheria and tetanus vaccine) booster every 10 years
