Resolution 1001 (ES-I) is a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly as it sat in its Emergency Special Session guise on 5 November 1956. It established a United Nations Command for an emergency international force to secure and supervise the cessation of hostilities around the contended issue of the Suez Canal.[1] The Suez Crisis occurred as the result of Egypt's nationalization of the Canal, which was contrary to the wishes of its French and English managers.
