Peter Redmond (born in Dublin, Ireland) is an internationally recognised robotics expert, Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) researcher, award-winning public speaker, and special effects supervisor. He first rose to fame as a competitor and engineer on BBC’s Robot Wars, where he was a founding member of Team Diotóir and became widely known for his innovative robot designs. He later solidified his celebrity status with his Guinness World Record-setting Rubik’s Cube-solving robot, RuBot II. More recently, he has gained widespread recognition as a lead engineer and “fixer” on RTÉ's Big Life Fix, showcasing life-changing inventions that solve extraordinary challenges for individuals.
Early life and education
[edit]Peter Redmond began his career with a background in aerospace engineering, completing his training at the Fitzmaurice Aerospace Academy in 1989. He later obtained a B.Eng. in Engineering from the Open University (2005) and an M.Eng. with distinction from Queen’s University Belfast (2007). His thesis focused on developing an interactive Rubik’s Cube-solving robot with colour vision.
He pursued further academic achievements, earning a PhD in Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin (2014), where he specialised in 3D computer vision and augmented reality. Redmond is currently completing a second PhD at Dublin City University, focusing on denoising EEG data using video eye tracking.[1]
