What is Pacem?
[edit]Pacem School is an independent alternative middle and high school in Montpelier, Vermont.
Meaning;
[edit]Pacem's name also derives from Latin for peace.
Early Years (2006 - 2011)
[edit]In the fall of 2006 Pacem Learning Community (PLC) started to offer classes to local home-schooled students located in Central Vermont. Then in the following year (2007) the PLC changed their location to Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA). This change in location first put Pacem in the capital of Vermont & Vermont's hub of cultural, artistic, intellectual, civic, & culinary activity.
Pacem's Independence (2012 - Present Day)
[edit]In February of 2012 Pacem was recognized by the Vermont Department of Education to open as a "'State Recognized"' and independent high school. This change had a board & circle meeting to change the name from Pacem Learning Community to Pacem School as it was to better reflect their new status. In fall of 2014 Pacem School had moved into a more "spacious" location on the VCFA campus. Then in 2015, Pacem became an approved independent school and with this newfound status allowed Pacem to receive money for students in "choice" towns. 2016 was celebrated because it would be Pacem's 10 year anniversary. To present day Pacem has been building their programs ever since.
