OTT, also known as Over-The-Top compressor is a VST plug-in developed by Xfer, Inc. It first originated in the Digital audio workstation Ableton Live and was later re-created as a free VST plug-in by the company Xfer.
OTT is a multiband audio compressor. The plug-in works by splitting the audio into three bands and individually compressing each, before merging the bands into one sound again. This can make the audio seem fuller.
Use in music production & reception
[edit]OTT is popular among EDM composers and DJs. Spread by producers like Virtual Riot, it has become a meme in the EDM community for its ease of use,[1] although it has been criticized by professionals due to introducing unwanted changes to the sound's phase.
