  • Comment: Not quite there yet for notability unfortunately. Key issues are: (1) Most of the Metacritic and OpenCritic reviews are not reliable review sources as they're various small-time blogs or non-editorial gaming sites; (2) the article reads like it has a promotional tone that isn't very neutral - stuff like "intricately designed" or vague terms like "inspiration from the classics" that don't really fit in an encyclopedia; (3) There's lots of unnecessary details that aren't relevant to notability like the game's price point, its Steam user review score, and character cast in absence of detail on the gameplay. Let me know if you have any questions; and (4) There's a few copyediting issues that suggest a re-read is needed before anything else. VRXCES (talk) 06:48, 22 November 2024 (UTC)

Mekazoo is a 2D platformer set in a lush, 3D world, released on November 14, 2016.[1] It was developed and published by The Good Mood Creators, drawing inspiration from the classics in the genre yet adding new mechanics. The player takes control of a team of five mechanised animals, each with special abilities, to navigate through complex levels, puzzles, and boss battles.[1]

Gameplay and Features

[edit]

Mekazoo features a single-player campaign and a local co-op multiplayer mode. The game focuses on seamless transformations between the various "Mekanimals" to overcome specific challenges. The cast includes:

  • Armadillo: Specialized to roll for high-speed navigation.
  • Frog: Comes with the grabbing tongue, ideal for swinging.
  • Wallaby: Can perform high jumps and move dynamically.
  • Pelican: Can glide through air, offering aerial exploration.
  • Panda: Excellent at breaking obstacles through sheerforce.[2]

It is a gameplay that combines speed, precision, and puzzle-solving. One has to learn how to master the mechanism of every character, going through intricately designed stages under the liveliness of a soundtrack.

Reception and Critiques

[edit]

Mekazoo received mixed to generally positive reviews:

Critics praised its creative design and addictive mechanics, comparing it to platforming greats like Donkey Kong Country and Sonic the Hedgehog.[3] GamingTrend was amongthe outlets that pointed out how gameplay and its soundtrack were "brilliantly designed". Some reviewers criticized occasional technical issues and uneven difficulty.[4] As such, ZTGD noted performance issues and stated that it may have potential for a stronger future reception.[5]

The game still has a rating categorised as "Mostly Positive" on Steam and a score of 73% on OpenCritic.[1][6]

Availability Mekazoo is available on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It also has backward compatibility on the newer consoles: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The price of the game would usually sell for around $9.99 on most platforms.[1]
