Márkó Szkublics (? - Zimony, July 12, 1521) Hungarian-Croatian nobleman, defender of Zimony Castle.

The fall of Zimony

[edit]

Márkó Szkublics and his 350 men, as well as the armed citizens, heroically held the castle of Zimony from July 5-12. When the Turks invaded the castle, the population and part of his troops surrendered, but Skublics with a group of about a hundred men held out until the end. He was seriously wounded in the battle. They brought him half-dead to the Great Leader Piri Mehmed, who killed him with a war elephant they had brought with them.
