History
[edit]The KA Malabar first operated on April 30, 2010. This train serves passengers from Bandung and its surroundings who travel to Malang and until now is the only train that serves this route.[1] At the beginning of its operation, this train was the only passenger train in Indonesia that provided three class service options at once in one network, namely executive, business, and economy.[2]
This train route was once extended to Pasar Senen railway station in conjunction with the implementation of the train travel schedule as of December 1, 2019. However, this train route was then restored as before on September 1, 2020.
Starting June 1, 2023, business class service on this train will be removed so that this train will only have two classes of cars left, namely executive and economy class. This is because the arrangement of the network on this train has changed from the previous one carrying only 1 luggage car to 2 luggage cars.
In mid-May 2023, before the start of the implementation of train travel graphics (Gapeka 2023), the operation of this train was moved from the previous Daerah Operasi VIII Surabaya to Daerah Operasi II Bandung. This car network is mutated to Depo Kereta Bandung (BD).
From 24 January 2024 there is an addition to this train schedule with a morning departure from Bandung railway station to Malang railway station and from 25 January 2024 for the opposite direction. This additional schedule of trains is served with premium economy and executive class using stainless steel network facilities. The network facilities used are shared with Harina trains to facilitate network switching times. The lineup consists of four executive cars, four premium economy cars, one dining car, and one generator car.
From 13 May 2024, the Malabar night train network that previously used mild steel network has been replaced with a stainless steel network which is a drop from the Lodaya train. The arrangement of this network consists of one generator car, four executive cars, one dining car, two premium economy cars, and two baggage cars.
