Jeannie L. Ng Sandoval (born January 14, 1965) is a Filipino politician who is currently serving as the Mayor of Malabon since 2022. She previously served as Vice Mayor of Malabon from 2013 to 2019.

Early life

She finished her elementary and secondary education and her bachelor's degree in Computer Science from De La Salle University.[1]

Political career

In 2004, she ran for Mayor under the Liberal Party, but lost to then-ABC President Canuto Senen "Tito" Oreta.[2] Few days prior to election day, she promised that if ever she got elected, she will turn the city into a "food city" to elevate the livelihood of her fellow citizens.[3]

In 2013, she ran for vice mayor under the United Nationalist Alliance and won with a margin of 575 votes against her closest rival, then-Councilor Edwin Dimaguiba.[4]

In 2016, she ran for re-election under Nacionalista Party, with her running mate Josephine Veronique "Jaye" Lacson-Noel, the incumbent representative at that time.[5] Her husband, former Malabon-Navotas Rep. Federico "Ricky" Sandoval II also ran.[6] She and her husband won the elections, but her running mate lost to re-electionist Mayor Antolin "Lenlen" Oreta III.

In 2019, although eligible to run for third and final term as vice mayor, she ran for mayor but lost against re-electionist Mayor Antolin "Lenlen" Oreta III.[7]

In 2022, she ran for mayor for the second time and won against Councilor Jose Lorenzo "Enzo" Oreta, brother of then-outgoing Mayor Antolin "Lenlen" Oreta III[8] making her the city's first elected lady mayor.[9]

"Like our moms, normally when you get sick, when you have a problem, the first person you run to is your mom. I want to make the people of Malabon feel, especially if they are having problems, may mga kailangan ng tulong, makakalapit sila, bukas ang pintuan ko anytime."

A mother-like care, that's what she said on an interview on June 27, 2022. As the city's first lady mayor, she added that she will take care of their residents better like a mother who has more sensitivity when it comes to their needs.[10]

During her first 100 days as the city's chief executive, she showcased what she could deliver to her people, including:[11]

  • Handover of 37 housing units in Barangay Panghulo to informal settler families (ISFs).
  • Distribution of 42 certificates of land allocation in Barangay Longos to the active members of the Naglakar Homeowners Association.
  • Signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the housing program with Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar.
  • Ensured that the city newly registered 868 Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and that 76 of them were given assistive devices.
  • Declared the PHP 7,000,000 medical financial assistance was provided by the city to benefit 5,591 people.
  • Establishment of the Malabon Shelter and Housing Office to support families in need.
  • Completion of San Lorenzo Ruiz General Hospital construction.
  • More support to businesses and jobs impacted by the pandemic.
  • Regularization of job orders, casual, and contractual city hall employees.
  • Improve local government services by streamlining processes and widening the adoption of technology.

She has been trusted as a new city leader by her people. Bringing the people's mandate, she brought the possible transformation in her first 100-working days. There is nothing more important than supporting the steps of local leaders aiming for the betterment of the city and its people.[11]

On December 21, 2022, she signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) and the Universal Storefront Services Corporation (USSC) to launch the “Malabon Ahon Blue Card.” The blue card, which will be given to each household in the city, will increase transparency and efficiency of her administration with the utilization of an electronic financial system to distribute social programs and services (such as financial help) to residents. She said they established the blue cards for the families to get their ayuda, conveniently.[12]

Some students their families criticized the awarded moving-up certificates contains with Sandoval's large photo on its right side.[13][14] Also, she was criticized for the booklet for person with disabilities with the same issue, large photo on its cover. Also, her photo was larger than the photo of the booklet holder.[15][16]

She was also having a large photo in wedding cake card for 'Libreng Kasalan' celebrants. Libreng Kasalan or Kasalang Bayan is mass civil wedding which the mayor performs the ceremony and sign the marriage contract. A Redditor commented with sarcasm saying: Congrats sa bagong kasal (Congratulation to newly wed). Another one commented "A wedding to remember, ang [maaalala] lang ‘yang epal mong mukha," (A wedding to remember, they will only remember your attention grabbing face.")[17]

Corruption about PDAF

While still as Vice Mayor, she and her husband, Ricky Sandoval, then congressman of Malabon-Navotas with 10 others faced criminal and administrative complaints filed against them for the alleged misuse of the former legislator’s P20 million Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) from 2007 to 2009. But the case dismissed in 2022.[18]

'Photo op' while rescuing

In July 2024, some of her staff took photo of her riding a rescue boat while some of the rescuers where walking in the flood. The photo was uploaded to social media accounts, and many netizens criticized it, as it can only slow down the rescue operations of the city's rescuers.[19] Later, she explained that she only helped them and only part of her job. The photo on her social media account was removed days later.[20]

On July 30, She has been married to former Malabon representative Federico "Ricky" Sandoval II.[18]
