The seventeenth season of the American television sitcom series It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is expected to premiere on FXX in 2025, and consist of eight episodes. The season will star Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson, and Danny DeVito as "the Gang". In December 2020, after the fourteenth season aired, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia was renewed for four additional seasons. Filming began in October 2024.

[edit]After the fourteenth season aired, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia was renewed for four additonal seasons in December 2020, intending to take it up to season 18.[1]
Writing
[edit]On August 4, 2024, Charlie Day posted on Instagram that the writers' room would start working on the season in the following week.[2]
Filming
[edit]According to star Danny DeVito, filming for the season was expected to begin in September 2024.[3] By October 16, 2024, it was announced via Instagram that filming had begun.[4]
Episodes
[edit]The season is expected to consist of eight episodes.[5] One episode is set to conclude a crossover event that will begin on the fourth season of the ABC comedy series Abbott Elementary.[6]
Release
