Derrick Westry , commonly known as D. Westry, is an American artist, speed painter, speaker, lecturer, and minister. He specializes in speed painting, speed drawing, and original stage performances, where he creates larger-than-life masterpieces in record time.
Early life
[edit]Westry was born in Mobile, Alabama, and attended Mattie T. Blount High School[1] and Bishop State Community College,[2] where he earned the title of "The Talent Show King." As a pioneer of speed painting along with the late Denny Dent, he has been developing his innovative art techniques since childhood as a prodigy. From the 1980s through the 1990s, he gained public recognition for his speed art performances[3], consistently securing first-place awards in every competition he entered.
Career
[edit]Westry achieved international fame for his speed painting masterpieces, notably becoming the first speed painter to complete a televised art performance upside down in less than 90 seconds on the *Anderson Cooper Show* in New York City. This unique performance became the most-watched viral speed painting demonstration on the internet in 2013. Throughout his career, Westry has received numerous invitations from dignitaries to perform at prestigious venues around the globe.
