Crackaxle Canyon (themed area) is a themed area based on the Wild West at several Six Flags amusement parks. First opening at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in 1992 as one of the park's original areas. The themed area has since expanded into multiple Six Flags amusement parks in North America. Although the layout and attractions are not identical and vary at each park, they all thematically connect with each other.
History
[edit]Fiesta Texas
[edit]Six Flags Fiesta Texas opened on March 14, 1992, with Crackaxle Canyon as one of the park's original areas. The area's two featured attractions were The Rattler, a wooden coaster, and The Gully Washer, a river rapids ride.
In 1997, Road Runner Express opened. It is a steel roller coaster, based on the chase between Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner.
In 1999, Crackaxle Canyon received an expansion featuring three different Looney Tunes themed children's rides. Foghorn Leghorn's Barnyard Railway, Yosemite Sam's Wacky Wagons, and Daffy's Duckaneer opened. Daffy's Duckaneer closed after the 2000 season, and was kept in storage.
For the 2020 season, Dare Devil Dive Flying Machines, a Zamperla Super Air Race ride replaced Texas Gunslinger and was expected to open in that year, but opened in 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the 2022 season, Dr. Diabolical's Cliffhanger, a Bolliger & Mabillard Dive Coaster was announced, was planned to replace Sundance Theatre. The ride opened on July 30, 2022.
In the late 2024 season, Quantum Accelerator, an Intamin straddle coaster was announced, to replace Goliath.[1]
