Is there not a page for "American" as an ethnic group? There are lots of pages for [insert origin or color]-American groups, but doesn't American by itself deserve a page? Sowelilitokiemu (talk) 01:58, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

American?

[edit]

How is "American" defined? From the USA? From North America? From either North or South America? This term is very very vague and is very USA-centered. I propose we stop using this term and stop referring to specific people as "NATION"-"American". It would be much easier to simply start each article with the person's birthplace and maybe a short mention of the country in which the person lived most of his/her life. For example:

Michael Fred Phelps (born June 30, 1985 in Baltimore, United States) is a swimmer.

or

Anastasia "Nastia" Valeryevna Liukin (Russian: Анастасия "Настя" Валерьевна Люкина; born October 30, 1989 in Moscow,Russia) is an artistic gymnast. She moved to the United States with her family when she was two and a half years old.
