Category talk:Colonial forts in New York (state)

• As you can see I just created this category and am populating it. I also created the category purpose, which is to include forts that were built during colonial times. This does not exclude the fort from being in the Category: Forts in New York category, which includes all forts built in the area of the state of New York, no matter when built or how long they lasted. And articles can be found in both a category and its parent. This is clearly explained in WP:DUPCAT. These are called non-diffusing categories. There is nothing wrong with what I am doing. If you are changing this, then your editing is incorrect and a result of your misunderstanding of the category system. Hmains (talk) 02:32, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Not only do you misunderstand the exception to dupcat you are violating wp:own with your belief that you can alone decide the purpose of this category because you created it. Please cease or you will be accused of ownership and edit warring.Camelbinky (talk) 20:56, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

• My use of "I" is not claiming ownership; it was merely a statement of fact. I did this work so I am stating I did it; that is all. Please do not try to create conflict and ill-will where there is none. Also, you seem be the one creating edit warring by reverts instead of discussion. I posted the note above; you did not answer, so I assumed you had quit the discussion and I could set the categories back to how they were prior to your repeated reverts. Next, until you read, understand, and accept WP:DUPCAT, there is little room for discussion. Once you do that, we might want to discuss whether the new category should be better named Category:Colonial-era built forts in New York or Category:Forts exiting during the colonial era in New York or something else. On the other hand, since you never created a sub-category like this for these forts, maybe you have no opinion on how to improve this fort categorization structure.
