Would it be correct to change the description to this?:
"Ailments, illnesses, and syndromes of unknown etiologies (causes)."
- I agree that cause should be changed to "etiology;" Cause is too vague as it can refer to either etiology or pathophysiology and some of these illnesses have at least partially well-established pathophysiology;
- Additionally strongly feel "Ailments" should be changed to "Illnesses" as "Illnesses" includes in its ambit ailments and ailment has the connotation of not being a severe illness and some of these illnesses, such as Alzheimer's can be severe; Definition of "ailment" from Oxford English Dictionary: "An illness, typically a minor one." https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/ailment
- I propose adding "unsettled" to unknown, since many or most of these illnesses plausibly or probably have at least some person or institution that "knows" what the etiology is and has published it, in the sense that he, she or they are convinced that they know the cause; and *in fact* they are correct (ie, in the future there will be medical consensus that the cause they have identified is correct- though of course we can not now know which ones do in fact know, but this does not negate the plausibility that there are published authorities who do in fact "know" an etiology); the term "unsettled" accounts for the fact that some etiologies of illnesses here may be "known" but not have a medical consensus on etiology. Definition of "unsettled" from OED: "2: Not yet resolved." https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/unsettled JustinReilly (talk) 23:03, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
Idiopathic illnesses
[edit]Should now include all stress related diseases/disorders- stop referring to them as “genetic” or due to a “chemical imbalance “ they at least should be minutely more honest and state “unknown or unidentifiable” chemical imbalances- medicine is not god-like and suppositions should not be presented as factual information 2600:1011:B171:8654:A535:920E:CD4C:2268 (talk) 20:59, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
