Carmen del Paraná is a town in the Itapúa Department of Paraguay. It is located in the southern part of the country, about 300 kilometers from the capital, Asunción. It was founded on April 24, 1843 by decree of Carlos Antonio López and Mariano Roque Alonso. The inhabitants mainly work in the agriculture and livestock industries, with extensive plantations of rice, soybeans and wheat.

It is considered the "Capital of Rice" because three of the largest rice processing mills in the country are located there, and "Cradle of Independence of Paraguay" due to the March 9, 1811 Battle of Tacuarí that was a definitive step towards achieving the country's independence on May 14 and 15, 1811.
