Firuzeh (Persian: فيروزه)[a] is a city in the Central District of Firuzeh County,[b] Razavi Khorasan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district.[6] It was the administrative center for Takht-e Jolgeh Rural District[7] until its capital was transferred to the village of Bozquchan.[6]

Demographics

Population

[edit]

At the time of the 2006 National Census, the city's population was 4,906 in 1,288 households,[8] when it was capital of the former Takht-e Jolgeh District of Nishapur County.[9] The following census in 2011 counted 5,769 people in 1,575 households,[10] by which time the district had been separated from the county in the establishment of Takht-e Jolgeh County.[c] Firuzeh was transferred to the new Central District as the county's capital.[6] The 2016 census measured the population of the city as 5,884 people in 1,740 households.[2]

Firuzeh means "turquoise" in Persian. This city and the city of Bar used to be part of the county of Nishapur though now they have become part of a separated county. These cities are historically part of the Greater Region of the city of Nishapur and its people have daily commute and connections with each other.
