Bill Dawes is an American actor, comedian, producer, and writer from Virginia.
He is a 3-time Broadway veteran with over a dozen Off-Broadway plays; his first stint was with Sigourney Weaver and Christopher Durang in the play Sex and Longing.[1][2] His portrayals of Green Bay Packers legend Paul "Golden Boy" Hornung in the Tony-nominated play Lombardi and Mickey Mantle in the MLB production of Bronx Bombers[3] were notable. Dawes lost 35 pounds for the role of Rudolph Nureyev in a play called Nureyev's Eyes.[4]
He has appeared on television shows such as Sex and the City, All My Children, Law & Order, Oz, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Damages, Rizzoli & Isles, Criminal Minds, Royal Pains, The Following, Elementary, Kevin Can Wait, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and many others.
His most recent television appearances include Manhunt (2020), SWAT (2021), Alaska Daily (2022-2023), The Other Guys (2023), Agents of the Law: Bass Reeves (2023), and NCIS: Hawaii.
Dawes has played leading roles in several feature films, most notably the award-winning independent films Fiona,[5] Evenhand,[6] and I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell.
His most recent film projects were What the Night Can Do (2020),[7] Beautiful Violence[8] (2021), The Walk (2022),[9] Woods Witch (2023),[10] and Christmas Couples Retreat (2023),[11] among others.
Dawes' involvement in film production includes being a co-producer[12] on Before the Sun Explodes, co-producer on Beautiful Violence[13] and House of Glass,[14] and associate producer[15] on The Performance. He has upcoming roles in Aloha Also Means Goodbye[16] as a co-producer and cast member,[17] and in Operation Taco Gary's[18] as an executive producer and cast member.[19]
Dawes, a comedian who tours nationally and internationally, considers the Hollywood Laugh Factory to be his home club. He has performed in over 16 countries, including New Zealand, South Africa, the Philippines, Singapore, Australia, and Saudi Arabia. Dawes has previously toured Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Iraq for the United Service Organizations (USO). He also hosts a Laugh Factory podcast called The Afterlaugh[20] and has appeared twice on Gotham Comedy Live on AXS TV.
Dawes has written articles in publications such as the Good Men Project[21] and Observer.[22] He has also written for a number of comics, including co-writing Jamie Kennedy's Comedy Central special Uncomfortable.[23]
