Ecology

[edit]

The slopes of Mount Agepsta, up to an elevation of 1,700–1,800 m (5,577–5,906 ft), are forested in Nordmann Fir (Abies nordmanniana) and Oriental Beech (Fagus orientalis) forests. They are in the Caucasus mixed forests ecoregion of the Temperate broadleaf and mixed forests Biome.

Higher elevations on the mountain have alpine meadows. The highest elevations near the summit have small glaciers.

  2. ^ a b The political status of Abkhazia is disputed. Having unilaterally declared independence from Georgia in 1992, Abkhazia is formally recognised as an independent state by 5 UN member states (two other states previously recognised it but then withdrew their recognition), while the remainder of the international community recognizes it as de jure Georgian territory. Georgia continues to claim the area as its own territory, designating it as Russian-occupied territory.
